Sing Joyfully – together

29/05/2018 16:15The Manchester Chorale welcomes Kent Chamber Choir and Musical Director Alan Vincent to Manchester to sing in a joint concert at St Ann’s Church in Central Manchester on Saturday 16th June and in a Mass at ‘The Hidden Gem’ Church at midday on Sunday 17th June.

Saturday’s joint concert will see two quite different halves to the evening. The Manchester Chorale will present a set of recent, mainly secular compositions that tend to be very melodic with exciting and varied rhythms. We even have one of our basses Chris O’Hara contributing two of his evocative songs set to poems about the consequences of war. Kent Chamber Choir will sing a diverse set ranging from their own MD Alan Vincent’s Sanctus to Maddalena Casulana’s Morir Non Puo Il Mio Cuore and Adio Lidia. Casulana was the first female composer to have her music published (in 1575) and considered herself as the first woman to be regarded as a professional composer.

It promises to be a night to remember with something to suit everybody. The highlights may well be when the two choirs sing together Rachmaninov’s Bogoroditse Devo and Byrd’s Sing Joyfully, from where we get our concert title.

The concert ends on a high note: the joint choirs will sing a spiritual My Lord, What a Morning, arranged by James Wild, the Chorale MD’s father.
