Event Type

After a wonderful lunchtime concert of Elizabethan Lute songs back in February, Manchester Renaissance Ensemble return with more music from 16th century England.

The Tudors’ reign encompassed some of the most famous and prolific English composers that we still perform to this day. This concert explores the music coming out of the Chapel Royal at Hampton Court, written by Tallis, Byrd and Fayrfax, as well as pieces from other prominent figures such as Robert White, Christopher Tye and William Cornysh (both Sr. and Jr). On top of this MRE also explores the trove of music from the manuscript ‘Music at the Court of Henry VIII’ which contains secular compositions by Fayrfax and the King himself – a monarch known for his wide ranging interests.

Manchester Renaissance Ensemble is directed by Rory Wainwright Johnston.
